Il termine 'Expat' identifica indistintamente chiunque abbia lasciato il proprio Paese per venire a lavorare nel Regno. I salari mensili degli 'Expat' possono variare da 350 SAR (85 Euro) dei netturbini ai 300 Euro di un taxista fino ai top manager che guadagnano queste cifre per qualche minuto in ufficio. L'altra grande differenza, conseguenza delle diverse condizioni di vita, è rappresentata dalla possibilità di portare o meno la propria famiglia con sé. 

Questa foto coglie due Expat agli opposti limiti del range retributivo.

With the term 'Expat' we call anyone who left his own Coutry to come and work in the Kingdom. Epxats monthly salaries vary from 350 SAR (90 $) of street cleaners till 330 $ of drivers to reach the salary of some top managers who earn that money for a few minutes in the office. One additional big difference, which is as well a consequence of the different life conditions, is the possibility to bring the family oversea.

C'è sempre una luce bella la mattina in sala da pranzo: la vediamo solo nei week-end perchè in settimana la sveglia è alle 5. Ormai abbiamo associato questa luce calda è avvolgente a due giorni insieme, all'avventura o in totale relax. Dipende da noi. Oggi colazione con 'Lotus'. In Italia non l'ho mai visto: è una crema di biscotto. Compulsiva quanto la Nutella, per me viene superata solo dal latte condensato.

There's always a beautiful light in the morning in our dining room: we can see it only during the week-ends because in the week we wake up at 5. We have connected this warm light to the idea of spending two days together, scouting or relaxing. It depends on our mood.  Today we'll have breakfast with 'Lotus'. Never seen it in Italy: it's a biscuit cream. As compulsive as Nutella can be, only condensed milk beats it.

Giovedì sera siamo andati al Jubail Fest: la versione locale delle sagre maremmane. Anche qui grande affluenza, famiglie allegre ed occasioni per belle foto. Questa sera ho scelto quest'accostamento donna-automobile. Il verde è il colore nazionale Saudita mentre 'La Bicicletta Verde' è un bellissimo film che racconta bene alcuni aspetti della condizione femminile in Arabia.

Thursday evening we were at Jubail Fest: local version of our homeland fairs. Lot of people here as well, happy families and plenty of opportunities to bring home nice pictures. Tonight I choose this woman-car combination. Green is KSA national colour and 'The Green Bicycle' is a wonderful film that very well describes some aspects of women's life in Saudi.

Un momento di lavoro divertente con il mio collega Aziz: si tratta di ripristinare le attività interrotte in cantiere. La sua tazza del caffè indica che lui è la persona giusta all'interno del team. E' bello poter affrontare argomenti 'impegnativi' sapendo mantenere il sorriso.

A funny episode in our working activities with my colleague Aziz: we have to start again construction activities after a long break. His coffee mug says he's the right guy for this. It's nice to tackle challenging tasks with some humour.

Ci siamo organizzati nel compound in modo da coprirci per le vacanze: i proprietari di cani e gatti si prestano mutuo soccorso grazie ad organizzazione tedesca, garanzia di serietà. Quando andiamo via noi qualcuno si prende cura di Melinda e Augustina e alla prossima occasione ricambiamo noi il favore. A questo giro abbiamo incontrato Lotte, due settimane sono volate ed ora ci si saluta: alla prossima vacanza!

We got organized here in the compound so we cover each other: pets owners enjoy a German style organization that means sure reliability. When we are on vacation, someone takes care of Melinda and Augustina, we give the favour back at the next opportunity. This was the turn of Lotte, two weeks passed so quickly and it's time for goodbye now: see you at the next holidays!
