Oggi troppo vento (e freddo: 7°C!!) per andare a fare colazione in riva al mare: il programma cambia, si va al vivaio a prendere qualche pianta per casa (vedere Backstage sotto per i protagonisti). In esposizione al vivaio trovo le MARGHERITE DI FILARE!!! Spettacolari. Inutile portarle a casa perchè non passerebbero l'estate. Faccio una foto che diventa la foto di oggi: splendida giornata a chiusura di un bellissimo week-end.

Angolo Tecnico: ho paragonando questa foto (l'originale a piena risoluzione) con quella fatta a Filare nel 2013. Quella di oggi è stata scattata con APS-C ed elaborata applicando in Lightroom l'emulazione per film Fuji Velvia. Quella del 2013 è stata fatta con full frame (Canon 5D-III) e lavorata in Lightroom senza preset. La qualità del full-frame si apprezza in una maggiore tridimensionalità dell'immagine. L'obiettivo macro (100 f/2.8) ha anche contribuito con un'inquadratura più suggestiva. Tuttavia la qualità della piccola XT-1 con il 35mm ad f/2 mi lascia molto soddisfatto. Tecnicamente per poter scattare a f/2 in pieno sole (Saudita) e senza filtri ho dovuto utilizzare l'utilissima funzionalità 'Otturatore Elettronico' della piccola XT-1 Fuji.  
  

Too much wind (and cold: 7°C !!) today for a breakfast on the Corniche: we change our plan and we head to the nursery to buy some plants for our home (check the Backstage below for the main characters). Outside the nursery we see the FILARE DAISIES!!! Great. No way to bring them home as they won't survive the summer. I take a picture that will be today's photo: wonderful day closing this great week-end.

Tech Corner: I have compared this photo (the original full-res) with the one taken in Filare in 2013. Today's photo was shot with an APS-C camera and processed in Lightroom applying the film emulation Fuji Velvia. The one taken in 2013 was shot with a full frame (Canon 5D-III) and processed in Lightroom with no preset. Full-frame quality translates in a nicer three-dimensional effect of the picture. The macro lens (100 f/2.8) has help giving a more suggestive framing. The quality of the little XT-1 with 35mm f/2 is anyway outstanding and leaves me totally happy. Technically to be able and shoot at f/2 under full sun (in Saudi) and no filter I used the super-useful 'Electronic Shutter' of the small XT-1 Fuji.

Il messaggio del cartello è rivolto a chi deve entrare nella struttura: un salone che viene adibito a grandi feste, tipicamente matrimoni. Almeno per questo giorno la pistola va lasciata a casa.

Nei nuovi uffici abbiamo un collega che si occupa della caffetteria. Il suo è il famoso ruolo del 'Teaboy'. Nella sua cucina non manca niente, tutto è in ordine, pulito, perfetto. Vederlo all'opera mi fa apprezzare ogni volta la differenza tra fare un lavoro ed amare il proprio lavoro.  

We have a colleague in charge of the cafeteria at the new offices. It's the famous Teaboy role. In his kitchen nothing's missing, everything in place, neat, perfect. Seeing him working makes me understand each time the difference between doing a job and loving a job.

La foto è quel che è: l'ho fatta dalla macchina attraverso il finestrino che ha pure il filtro azzurrato. Però questo vialetto (il temine tecnico da torinese è 'controviale') viene adibito quotidianamente a mercatino, ha sempre dei bei colori e figure caratteristiche. 

The picture is not special: it's taken from the car through the tinted window. This small side road becomes a bazar on a daily basis and always shows beautiful colours and intriguing characters.

Completato il terzo giorno di lavoro in stabilimento dall'inizio del 2016. La settimana scorsa ho lavorato da casa e quindi ha avuto psicologicamente minore valenza. Volendo essere completi nell'analisi, essendo Martedì, possiamo dire di aver completato il giro di boa della prima settimana. Immortaliamo il momento esatto.

Third working day on site for 2016 completed. Last week I've been working from home, therefore lesser psychological value. To complete the analysis, being today Tuesday, we can say we have passed the first half of the first week. Let's capture this very moment.

Non è male sta musica, senz'altro indiana ma c'ha qualcosa...valida. Chiedo a Rasheed e scopro che è musica Tamil. Le si dovrebbe dare un po' di diffusione... Rasheed ride. Ok ho capito ho un repertorio limitato, torno ad ascoltare Bruce Springsteen.

Not bad this music, it's indian indeed but there's something... it's real good. I ask to Rasheed and get to know that it's Tamil music. It should have a larger audience ... Rasheed laughs. Ok understood my music knowledge is limited, let's keep on listening to Bruce Springsteen.

So che ci sono nella dispensa....Deliziosi....Prima di partire Marta li ha comprati, ho visto! I biscotti con il cioccolato sopra della LU...ahhhh!! Sono miei!!!

E' passato circa un anno e fortunatamente ho dovuto/potuto cambiare la caffettiera e prendere quella a '2 tazzine'. Piccoli miglioramenti, solo apparentemente, che nascondono sforzi sovrumani... Date uno sguardo sotto al 'Background!'.   

Roughly one year has passed and luckily I could upgrade the single cup coffee maker with a double cup model. Improvements, small only at first sight, as a result of huge efforts... Make sure you check the 'Background!' below.

Sotto lo scatto di un anno fà. Mattina di un weekend di Novembre, un po' malinconica perchè nessuna certezza su come e quando Marta mi avrebbe raggiunto. Altro compound, tanti dubbi che ora sono alle spalle.

Below a shot from one year ago. November morning, week-end, a bit blue because of zero guarantees on how and when Marta could come and live with me again. Another compound, a lot of doubts that now are buried in the past.

Eccolo ancora lì parcheggiato davanti a casa mia da tre giorni, raso marciapiede. Aspetta solo che mi distragga per portarmi a fare un giro, uno di quelli poco piacevoli. Peccato che anche lui, poveretto, non sia proprio in forma, altrimenti sarebbe stato un buon sequestro...:)

There it is again, parked right in front of my villa since three days, right beside the sidewalk. It's just waiting for me to get distracted and then the ride will start. An unpleasant ride indeed. Only regret: it has seen better days, like me maybe, else it'd been a good capture... :)

Facciamo un giro fuori? Melinda ci da l'ok: possiamo andare.
Circa 15 minuti per fare 100 metri: meglio di così non riesco. Per ora. Fuori è primavera: è così bello che anche con le stampelle si sta bene. Piccolo sussulto passando vicino al campo da basket, acqua passata ormai pensiamo solo a recuperare. I ragazzini giocano con i genitori e il ristorante ha ospiti anche se è tardi: segni del venerdì che è arrivato, è l'inizio del weekend...lungo!!
Dopo un anno in questo compound riesco a cogliere altri segni, meno comuni. Ecco il più temuto di tutti: la carriola con sabbia e mattonelle davanti ad una casa*. Segno che l'impianto idraulico è da rifare... ma ora godiamoci il sole... 

Shall we go for  walk outside? Melinda gives us the green light: we can go.
15 Minutes for a 100 meters: can't do it better than that. For now. Outside it's Spring time: so nice it's lovely despite the crouches. Small wince approaching the basketball court, water under the bridge it's time to recover now. Kids are playing with their parents and the restaurant is entertaining guests regardless of the late hour: all signs that Friday is here, it's the beginning of the weekend... a long one!
After one year living in this compound I can recognize other signs, not so common. Here's the most feared: the wheelbarrow with sand and tiles laying in front of a Villa*. This sign means the plumbing needs to be refurbished... let's enjoy the sun now...

Il primo giorno del 2016 in Arabia parte tardi, per ovvi motivi. Sveglia alle 12 (hey! siamo andati a dormire alle 5...) colazione con caffè e moka italiani, la nostra vicina Mimì che ci viene a salutare. Un bel sole primaverile ci scalda mentre continuiamo il relax in soggiorno parlando del più e del meno.

Suonano alla porta: un bel vassoio di cioccolatini per augurarci in ritardo 'Buon Natale' diventa un gradito 'Bentornati!' da parte del Compound Manager.

Our first day of 2016 in Saudi starts late for us, obvious are the reasons. Wake up at 12 (hey! we went to bed at 5...) an Italian coffee prepared with our moka, our neighbor Mimì comes meet us. A nice sun like spring time warms us while we keep on relaxing in the living room talking about everything and anything. Door bell rings: a tray of chocolate from the Compound Manager tells us a late 'Merry Christmas' and it also becomes a valued for us 'Welcome back'.

Il tempo vola e con lui anche noi. Partenza da Roma alle 16 ed arrivo al Compound alle 5 del giorno dopo. Freschi come due rose di campo. Quasi.

In aeroporto, tra i pochi vantaggi delle stampelle c'è l'estensione della condizione di 'frequent flyier' alla famiglia: taglio delle code e accesso alla lounge dell'aeroporto di Fiumicino. Excellent!

Sul fronte Middle-East nulla da segnalare: puntuali e cortesi come sempre e domani si ricomincia!

Time Flies and we must fly too. We are scheduled to leave Rome at 4 p.m. to arrive to our Compound at 5 a.m. As fresh as two wild roses. Almost like that.

At the Airport, amongst the few advantages brought to us because of my crouches, we get the frequent flyer bonuses extended to the both of us: fast track and airport loung access in Fiumicino. Excellent!

Middle-East side, nothing to declare: in-time and nice as usual, tomorrow we begin anew!

In sintesi, le nostre vacanze di Natale 2015: non il massimo e tanti amici che non abbiamo potuto salutare. Ora pronti a tornare in Arabia!

Our Christmas Holidays 2015 in short: not the best possible and too many friends we couldn't visit. Now we are ready to go back to KSA!

To shoot ths one we used the XT-1 with 23mm, set on manual focus and used the Fujifilm Camera Remote Android app to shoot through our mobile.

Teo wanted to check all the equipment first. Once we got his OK we took the pictures!
