I ceffi restano insabbiati. Sono alcuni turisti in visita come noi a Mada'in Saleh. A volte mi chiedo come avrei reagito se avessi assistito a questa scena a Scarlino.... E poi: perchè 'ceffi'?

The thugs get stuck in the sand. In fact they are just tourists like us, visiting Mada'in Saleh. Sometimes I wonder what my reaction would have been if I saw the same scene in my town in Italy. Also, why 'thugs' at all?

Day 327 - Al Ula People

Nella parte anitca di Al Ula si incontrano tracce di turismo locale: ecco una fugace 'lady in black'. Sorprendente come si possa girare tra vicoli che hanno 2000 anni come se fosse il borgo sotto casa. In alcune zone ci sono graffiti risalenti ai Nabatei che io ho scambiato per scritte sui muri contemporanee.

You can spot local toursts in the ancient part of Al Ula: here's a swift 'lady in black'. Suprisingly enough you can walk though the 2000 years old alleys just like you were in your block. In some areas there are graffiti on the walls that date back to Nabatei's times and I thougut they had been written during our days.

Foto cartolina di quelle che fanno inorridire il fotoclub. Al Ula, città oasi con il suo centro moderno e, in primo piano le case in fango di 2000 anni fa.

Post card picture today, just like those that horrify photography experts. Al Ula, an oasis-city with his modern center and, in the fore front the 2000 year old houses built with mud.

Day 323 - Il viaggio inizia con una strada - The trip begins with a road

In realtà il viaggio è iniziato con l'aereo da Dammam ad Hail. Ma per questa tratta nulla da segnalare, normale amministrazione. All'aeroporto ci vengono a prendere ed iniziano le 4 ore di macchina con destinazione Al Ula. Le montagne sullo sfondo fanno effetto dopo 2 anni e 3 mesi di deserto piatto.

Actually our trip started with the flight from Dammam to Hail. That part of the trip however had nothing particular, bussiness as usual. At the airport we are picked up and our 4 hours by car start, destination Al Ula. The mountains on the background are somhow impressive after 2 years and 3 months of flat desert.

Questo fine settimana (18 e 19 Novembre) decidiamo di partire con amici per un camping nel deserto. Roba vera, completamente amatoriale e niente Alpitur. Alla guida del gruppo due miei colleghi 'locals' al 100%.

Iniziamo i post sull'avventura nel deserto intorno a Ryadh con questa bell'immagine presa proprio dalla fine del viaggio: siamo appena stati 'cacciati' dal bar della lussuosissima stazione di servizio perchè non provvisto della zona 'per famiglie'. Il caffè decidiamo di bercelo in macchina. All'uscita troviamo il sistema di autolavaggio in piena attività...

This weekend, 18 and 19 November, we went camping in the desert along with some friends. Real life, no travel agency involved here. Two colleague of mine, 100% locals were leading us.

This is the first post about our adventure in the desert around Ryadh and I start with a nice shot taken right from the very last end of the trip: we just had to move out of a bar at the gas station because there's no 'Family zone'. No issue: we decide to have our coffee in the car. Outside the bar we have an example of the car-wash during it's peak.

Forse dalle duecento foto di cavalli non si è capito ma siamo andati di recente ad un maneggio vicino a Jubail. Abbiamo fatto amicizia con diverse persone ed anche ricevuto inviti per lezioni gratis da un ragazzino del posto che avrà avuto 12 anni al massimo. Nella foto un signore che porta il suo cavallo a spasso dopo avercelo fatto ammirare.

Maybe it was not clear from the 200 pictures of horses posted lately but we've recently been to a horse riding school close to Jubail. We met several people and also got invited to have free lessons from a local kid of max 12 years old. In this picture a man walks his horse out of the stables after showing it to us.
