Un saluto a Follonica ed all'Italia prima di partire e tornare in Arabia: vacanza rapida ma come sempre ricca: famiglia, amici e persone care, la nostra casa, foto (tante!!), gatti, tortelli, pizze.... tutto compresso in 9 giorni. Ne è valsa la pena come al solito!

A greeting to Follonica and to Italy before we leave again to back to Saudi: the vacation was a quick one but rich as usual: family, friends and realtives, our home, pictures (so many!!), cats, pies, pizza,.... all this compressed into just 9 days. It was worth it, as usual!

Changing subject, a picture through a car windshield that has a retrò flavour. A bit because of the classy model, a bit because of the Kodak Portra preset that brings good result time after time.

All'autogrill beduino che vedete in foto, il mio amico Abdulraman finalmente esulta: hanno il tabacco per la shisha. Tra l'altro mi spiegano che quei bottiglioni con liquido verde contengono benzina. 

At the post you see in the photo, my friend Abdulraman is finally happy: he could get the tobacco for his shisha. By the way that green liquid in the plastic bottles is gasoline.

THings start getting interesting as soon as we get into the beduin zone: even a simple truck can have some surprise.

Day 350 - Di nuovo in viaggio - On the road again

Questo week-end siamo di nuovo all'avventura: questa volta ci andiamo ad accampare in mezzo al deserto nella zona di Riad. Non andiamo con un'agenzia di viaggi ma con un gruppo di colleghi e loro amici del posto. No Alpitur?? Ahiahiahiahi!!!

Le foto inziano quando abbiamo oltrepassato Riad e siamo vicini al punto finale: paesaggio meno 'moderno' ed occidentalizzato rispetto alla Eastern Province da cui veniamo noi. Alla stazione di servizio questo splendido esemplare di moto cinese, seminuova con neanche 1 milione di chilometri.

This weekend we are on the road again: this time we will camp in the desert close to Riad. We are not travelling with an agency but with some colleagues and their local friend.

The pictures tell the story from the area past Riad, close to our final destination: the landscape is less 'modern' and compared to the Eastern Provice, where we come from, here is less westernized. At a gas station we found this wonderful Chinese motorbike, almost new and less than 1 million kilometers.

Si esce dalla valle e puntiamo verso l'albergo, rapido check-out e poi in aeroporto: viaggio fantastico ma domani si torna al lavoro!

Out of the valley we are bound to the hotel, quick check-out then to the airport: fantastic trip but tomorrow we must be back to work!

Day 347 - Storie - Stories

Foto scattata da dentro il 4x4 senza fermarci: siamo sul bordo di un serpente d'asfalto largo massimo 2.5 metri che parte dalla valle e sale su un picco. Penso la pendenza in alcuni tratti fosse vicina al 15-20%. Incontriamo un gruppo di lavoratori addetti ad asfaltare la strada. Non ci si può fermare, non c'è tempo per fare due parole, non sappiamo quali storie sono dietro a questo volto. 

This picture was taken inside the 4x4 and couldn't stop the car: we are on the side of a tar snake maximum widith 2.5m that climbs on top of a mountain. My estimate is that the slope was around 15-20%. We then meet a group of workers busy pouring the tar on the road. We just can't stop, no time to talk, no way to know what stories are behind this face. 

Day 346 - Questa invece è andata - No chance for this one

Questa invece è la jeep con la quale abbiamo fatto l'exploit iniziale: pintati dritti dentro alla primissima duna. Tra l'altro pure piccola. Il frontale Tahoe non ce l'ha fatta. Per i curiosi: no non guidava quel ragazzino nella foto.

This is the jeep we were riding during the initial exploit: stuck right into the very first dune. A rather small one by the way. The front hood of the Tahoe didn't make it through that experience. For those who are curious: no the driver was not the kid in the photo.

Day 345 - Questa è la domanda!! - This is the question !!

Foto scattata subito dopo la precedente: il reporter che è in me non poteva lasciarsela sfuggire. Non eravamo ancora riusciti a superare con la jeep la salitona e la guida stava iniziando una nuova rincorsa. Motore portato su di giri e vibrazioni 'forti' giusti per non lasciarsi trasportare in esageazioni.

La frase di Marta è stata qualcosa tipo: 'Ruggero ma non è che stiamo facendo una ..zzata?'.

Picture taken immediatly after the previous one: the reporter who's living inside myself could not miss it. We did not make it through the ramp yet with our Jeep and the driver was just about to start a new run. Hi revs and 'significant' car shake, let me use these words to avoid exaggerations. 

Marta's words at that point were something like: 'Ruggero, aren't we making a big mistake?'

Day 343 - Compagno di viaggio - Trip companion

Uno dei compagni di viaggio, nello specifico con lui abbiamo condiviso le varie rincorse del 4x4 a tutta velocità per superare indenni la salita al rientro dalla valle. Lui ha mantenuto il sangue freddo. Altri no.

One of our trip companions, specifically with him we shered a few high-speed runs of the 4x4 to pass by the steep ramp coming back from the valley. He's kept cool, others have not.
